My photography journey started 10 years ago when I fell in love with HDR (High Dynamic Range) images that were quite trendy back then. Shortly after, I purchased my first digital camera, an ordinary point-and-shoot with basic functionality. At that point in time, I had no previous knowledge of image composition or any technical details related to capturing the perfect shot, as all I wanted was to travel places and return home with pictures that were to be transformed into astonishing HDR images, a process that would take me up to 2 hours per photo.
It just happened that I had an eye for photography and not even know it. The photos I took back then during my journey in a small, and very dear to me, Romanian town called Sighișoara, were immediately loved by all those who saw them, so I couldn't stop now and started learning about various photography techniques and tools (focal length, ISO, bracketing, etc.), reading all sort of books about how to compose a shot and what various settings do. As my photography knowledge improved, I purchased my first DSLR (Digital single-lens reflex camera), a Nikon D40 with a Nikkor 18-55mm kit lens.
I also started joining various photography groups on the Internet, meet new people and subscribe to pages and local magazines which keep me updated with everything new in the industry, from lens, camera and tripods, to latest Photoshop releases and trends. I remember that the first time I participated in a photography contest was in one of the local magazines I bought regularly, and won my first ever prize, an advanced point-and-shoot camera from Olympus. I couldn't believe it and it marked me for the rest of my life, in a good way, of course.
As my photography needs changed and evolved, so do my requirements for cameras and lens. So I moved to a Nikon D80 about a year later after purchasing the Nikon D40, but dumped it shortly afterward. My dream camera was a Nikon D300 back then, so I had to borrow money from the bank to buy it. It was the perfect digital camera and love at first sight. Traveling the world was often a part of my life, and Nikon D300 never disappointed me, not even in the very cold winter nights of Lapland as I waited for the northern light to reveal themselves.
My journey in the wonderful of photography took me to beautiful places, and I am grateful that I get to do this, to become a photographer. This is also how I met my amazing wife, Ana, who's also an avid fan of photography and traveling, so now I had a partner to share my dreams with, and her also. We've been places most people never get to go, but our photography journey won't stop here. We've recently started a blog for our site at blog.mariusnestor.ro to share our journeys with the world in an attempt to inspire others and help them do the same because memories are forever.
Ten years later, I am now a professional photographer and have my own business. I know, who would have thought, right? Well sometime dreams do come true, and you just need to go with the flow and follow your heart. We never stop learning, and I'm always open to any type of collaboration, so don't hesitate to contact me. I currently use full frame Canon and APS-C Fujifilm cameras with a wide range of professional lens. The journey continues!
